My Secret Formula for Beating Creative Block (Works Every Time!)
Hey there, creative weirdos! 🖤 Stacey here, popping in to share my secret formula for beating creative block. Whether you’re an artist, writer, or just someone staring blankly at a wall (relatable, no?), these tips will get your inspiration flowing again. I even made a video about it—watch it here! 🎥✨
Let’s get messy and weird, shall we? ( ̄▽ ̄)ノ
Step 1: Clean Your Space, Clear Your Mind 🧼🕯️
When my creativity’s stuck, my first move is to declutter. Out with the old, in with the ✨ new vibes ✨. I toss out the chaos, grab my cleaning spray, and wipe away the dust (and probably my tears). I also light a lavender candle because, duh, I deserve peace and serenity 🌸 (inhales ahhh~).
Sometimes, I go all out and take a hot shower to fully reset my brain. It’s like I’m scrubbing off the “meh” and inviting the “YASSS.” I don’t know who needs to hear this, but CLEAN YOUR SPACE—it’s weirdly magical. ✨ (╯✧▽✧)╯
Step 2: Make Something Ugly (Yes, Ugly!) 🎨💀
This step is my jam. I grab my sketchbook, let go of all expectations, and just start making something. Anything. It could be a pile of stick figures, a page of chaotic doodles, or a weird blob with teeth (oh, hi Greg 👁️👄👁️). The goal isn’t perfection; it’s to release the creative energy.
Once in school, I doodled right in the front row during science class (bad idea). The teacher caught me and said, “That’s nice, Stacey, but maybe not now.” It was embarrassing, but hey, at least I was making something! Moral of the story: embrace the chaos, even if it gets you called out. ¯\(ツ)/¯
Step 3: Sketch from Life 👀✏️
When I can’t come up with ideas, I look at the world around me. I sketch my hand in different poses (hello, claw pose 🦀) or grab random objects like leaves or snacks for inspiration. If I’m feeling brave, I’ll sketch people—but honestly, social anxiety says no thanks most days. (´・_・`)
One time, I secretly took photos of strangers in town for a college project (I SWEAR it was for art). I used those photos to create stylized illustrations later. If you try this, please be discreet! Not everyone loves being turned into a sketchy masterpiece. (ノ≧∇≦)ノ
Pro tip: Start with something simple. Your hand is expressive and free! Sketch it doing weird stuff—like holding a spoon or making shadow puppets. Let the weirdness guide you. 🖐️🎭
Step 4: Take Breaks & Refresh 🚶♀️🍃🎥
Sometimes, the best cure for creative block is to STOP trying. I’ll take a walk, binge a weird movie, or dive into a book. Once, I even talked to a random dog on the street about my creative problems (he said nothing, but his vibes were immaculate 🐕✨).
If I’m in the mood, I’ll hit up art shops or exhibitions for inspiration. Can’t afford new supplies? Just run through the art aisle and vibe. 😏
Step 5: Collaborate with Creative Friends 🎭👯♀️
When all else fails, I call my sister. She’s my favorite person to brainstorm with because she’s just as unhinged as I am. Sometimes, we sit there laughing at dumb ideas like, “What if a cat turned into a detective and solved crimes with their whiskers?” (Spoiler: that’s now in my sketchbook).
The best ideas come when you’re being silly with someone who gets you. Find your person and unleash the chaos together. Who knows? Your next masterpiece could be born from a random joke. (evil laugh intensifies) ヾ(⌐■_■)ノ♪
A Quick Recap 🌀
1️⃣ Clean your space—dust off your workspace and your brain. Lavender candles optional but highly recommended.
2️⃣ Make ugly art—no pressure, just create something, anything, even if it looks like Greg the blob monster. 👾
3️⃣ Sketch from life—draw what you see around you. Start small, like your hand. Or your snacks. Or Greg.
4️⃣ Take breaks—step away, breathe, and let inspiration sneak up on you.
5️⃣ Collaborate—get weird with a friend and see where it takes you.
Remember, my secret formula for beating creative block is all about these simple but effective steps. You’ve got this! 🌟
That’s it for now, my fellow creative weirdos. Don’t overthink it—just start. Remember, even ugly art can lead to beautiful ideas. Share your tips, stories, or even your Gregs in the comments! Let’s inspire each other to keep creating. ✨
