The Real Reason Why I HATED School (And You Might, Too!)

Hey there, my fellow survivors of the school system! 👋 Stacey here, ready to spill the tea on the real reason I Why I hated school. If you’ve ever felt trapped in a never-ending series of awkward social moments, confusing lessons, and unfair rules, you’re definitely not alone. I even made a video about it—because why not? 🎥✨

Grab a snack, and let’s dive in. ( ̄▽ ̄)ノ

Why I Hated School

The “Why Are We Learning This?” Moment 🤔📚

Let’s start with the big one: the lessons. How many times did you sit in class thinking, “What is the point of this?” I’ve lost track of how many hours I spent memorizing stuff I knew I’d never use again—like the history of some ancient king who didn’t even know how to Google stuff. School was full of knowledge you’d only need if you were planning on becoming a professional historian or scientist. But what about learning to balance a checkbook? Or how to cook a meal without setting off the smoke alarm? 🙄

Sure, we can argue that parents should teach us practical life skills, but for many of us, that doesn’t happen. So instead, we just muddle through adulthood, trying to survive like the blind leading the blind. The real lesson here? School didn’t exactly prepare us for the real world.

Uniform Rules That Made No Sense 🤦‍♀️👗

Okay, let’s talk about uniforms. I didn’t mind them at first—no decision fatigue about what to wear. But the obsession with uniform perfection? Ridiculous. If your skirt was one millimeter too short or your shoes weren’t shiny enough, you’d be pulled out of class for a “uniform inspection.” 😒

And here’s the kicker: some kids couldn’t even afford new uniforms, and they were made to feel like trash for it. Like, what kind of school penalizes you for being poor? The whole system was set up to make us feel bad about our appearance rather than focus on the important stuff—like, I don’t know, actually learning.

Why I Hated School

My Hair—Personal Space, Please! 💇‍♀️

Now, let’s talk hair. I’ve had long, blonde hair my whole life, and while people always complimented it, I hated being the center of attention for it. One time, a girl literally started running her fingers through my hair during class. I’m sorry, what? 😤 I kindly asked her to stop, and she did it again! So, I did what anyone would do: I pulled her hair. Fair is fair, right? (Don’t worry, I was careful not to cause a full-on hair-pulling disaster.)

It wasn’t just students—teachers would randomly comment on my hair, too. “Oh, you’ve got such nice blonde hair! You should wear it like this more often!” Um, no thanks? Why can’t I just exist without my hair being a topic of conversation? Let me live, people! 🙄

The School Bus—A Survival Horror Show 🚍💥

Can we all agree that the school bus was a nightmare? The bullying, the sticky seats, and the absolute chaos of it all. The worst part? The fights. One time, I was just trying to survive a school bus ride, and a fight broke out over a seat. I was stuck there, praying I could vanish into thin air.

And don’t even get me started on that time a kid nearly set my hair on fire with a lighter. No joke. I’m this close to becoming a human torch just because some kid wanted to show off to his friends. Fun times, right?

Why I Hated School

Being the “Art Kid” – Free Labor or Actual Talent? 🎨👩‍🎨

Here’s the thing: being the “art kid” wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. Sure, I got a lot of attention for my drawings, but guess what? It meant constant requests. “Can you draw this for me?” “Can you do a poster for my project?” Yeah, no. Just let me do my own art in peace, please.

But it wasn’t just the students—teachers jumped in too. They’d ask me to do projects for them, and if I said no, I’d get guilt-tripped about “wasting my talent.” Seriously? I just wanted to focus on my own creative growth, not become the school’s free art department.

Social Anxiety & Being the Loner (aka The Invisible Kid) 😶💭

If you’ve ever been the socially anxious kid, you’ll get this. I didn’t have a solid friend group, so I floated between different cliques, never quite fitting in. Lunchtime? Not my favorite. I spent more time hiding out in the art room, not because I wanted to draw, but because I just didn’t want to be seen.

Group projects were the worst. Nobody wanted to work with me, and when I was paired with anyone, I usually ended up doing all the work. Teachers never noticed; they just assumed I was “focused.” Newsflash: I was trying to avoid the crushing weight of loneliness, thanks.

The Teachers – Some Were Great, Some Were… Not So Much 😡📚

Let’s talk about the teachers. Some were amazing, but others? Not so much. I had an English teacher who made me dread every lesson. She was cold, condescending, and made me feel like I wasn’t good enough. But then the next year, I had a wonderful English teacher, and surprise, surprise—my grades shot up. It just goes to show: the way a teacher treats you can make or break your experience.

And don’t even get me started on the PE teacher who treated every class like boot camp. If you weren’t naturally athletic, you were invisible—or worse, singled out for “motivation.” I don’t know about you, but I wasn’t a fan of being turned into a drill sergeant’s pet project.

That One Awful Experience in Junior School… 😤👎

Okay, this one still stings. I was helping pack up after an art lesson, and I wasn’t sure whether a painted-up newspaper was trash or not. I tossed it into the bin. Easy, right? Wrong. The teacher’s aide yelled at me in front of the entire class and made me fish it out of the gross bin. Seriously. She humiliated me for no reason. This was just one of many times when adults took pleasure in making kids feel small. It made me dread raising my hand, speaking up, or even just existing in class. If you’ve ever been belittled by an adult, you know exactly how it feels.
